The Original Infrared Sauna Spa - City Sweats

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dee Alams, Founder of City Sweats, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

City Sweats is the first infrared sauna wellness spa in the Pacific Northwest and the third in the country. Our clients range from health and wellness specialists to parents, busy business owners, movers and shakers in tech, and everyone in between. We believe that infrared wellness, relaxation, and detoxification is for everyone, regardless of the life they lead.

Tell us about yourself

I personally discovered infrared therapy after I had an injury and treated it in an infrared sauna. I couldn't believe how quickly my body repaired itself and all the additional benefits I was feeling, from better sleep to clearer skin to an all-around better outlook on my day-to-day life! I immediately knew I had to find a way to bring the power of infrared home with me, and I brought it to the dance studio I owned at the time, and almost immediately, it was a hit, and City Sweats was born. I took what I saw my community needed and brought City Sweats to them. Every day I am motivated by the desire to bring the knowledge and benefits of what infrared can do for anyone to the communities I love so much and be able to continuously see the changes in each and every client that comes through our doors.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've been a first-hand witness to the powerful effects of infrared on clients with a variety of personal struggles, from cancer to Lyme disease to Tourette's syndrome and depression. I have cried with them and celebrated with them, and it will forever remind me why I do what I do, even on the hardest days.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

You are going to trip and fall. It's part of learning and building a business. As long as you know that even if you fall, that doesn't mean you've failed. Get back up; it will only help you in the long run as a person and a business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find the why behind what you're doing. If you don't have a why behind what you are doing, it will be so much harder to strive forward on those hard days.

  2. Stay true to your values and your core. Strive to show it to your clients, your employees, and your community. It'll take you farther than you could ever imagine.

  3. Keep an eye on what your industry needs and what it is missing. Be genuine to yourself and what you believe in, but also know that the world moves fast, and to be successful, you must always be forward-thinking for your business.
